The Colne Philharmonic Orchestra

The Colne Philharmonic website at www.colnephil.org was the first web site I developed. Its primary goal is to promote forthcoming CPO concerts along with detailing the history of the orchestra. The design of the site has remained fairly static since it was built and as the orchestra only plays around 4 concerts a year it requires very little maintenance. I generally update the site following each concert adding more detailed information of the next concert.

I do think that the site is due for a re-vamp. At present it remains static for the majority of the time which doesn't encourage visitors. There is a mailing list and I have had a few people join. I also think that the site needs to be linked from more sites so we can get more visitors and therefore more bums on seats as our concerts.

The website was built using Frontpage 2000 a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor from Microsoft. This was my first foray into Web Site construction and I learned a lot from it. Frontpage is quite complex and one of the downsides of using it is that it generates it's own HTML code when your using it as a work processor. A lot of this code is not required and could be removed and it's for this reason that I am no longer using this to build web sites.
